Simplified Legal Agreements
In recent years, an increasing number of clients have taken legal action against banks. The (perhaps accurate) argument is that banks hide important information in lengthy legal agreements. There’s often no way around the fact that these agreements are wordy and complex, but RBC set out to help clients understand what’s involved before they sign on the line.
The new mobile account-opening application was being built for prospective clients, and it seemed like the right opportunity to make a strong first impression. RBC was aiming to appear more honest and transparent than its competitors.
As part of the product design team, we did some research to understand clients’ attitudes toward legal agreements. Most said they only read agreements that covered subject matter that was of interest to them. With that in mind, we created a summary of each document in our flow. The goal was to allow clients to decide whether the agreement was something they’d want to review in detail or not.
